The firm of Brashier Crosby, P.L.L.C. was founded in 2010, to provide high quality, real-world legal services to upstream oil and gas producers. The majority of the firm’s focus is on mineral title examination for oil and gas exploration as well as providing assurances regarding title matters and representation and transactional assistance with most oil and gas matters.

OUR ATTORNEYS

KYLE BRASHIER

Mr. Brashier started his career in the oil and gas industry as a landman, working in Tarrant, Jack and Wise Counties. Upon being admitted to the State Bar of Texas, he accepted an associate position with the firm of Judd & Jacks, P.L.L.C., focusing on drafting both “sit down” and “stand up” title opinions. Mr. Brashier later partnered with Colby Crosby, and formed the firm of Brashier Crosby, P.L.L.C. Mr. Brashier has drafted and reviewed hundreds of title opinions covering lands across the State of Texas, including the Permian Basin, Eagle Ford Shale, Austin Chalk and Barnett Shale, the SCOOP and STACK plays and the Arkoma Basin in Oklahoma, as well as the Bakken Shale in North Dakota.

COLBY CROSBY

Mr. Crosby’s career in the oil and gas industry began as a field landman, working primarily in the Barnett Shale. Prior to co-founding Brashier Crosby, P.L.L.C., Mr. Crosby worked for a Fort Worth based law firm where he rendered traditional and “stand-up” title opinions. Mr. Crosby has rendered and reviewed title opinions in the Permian Basin, the Eagle Ford Shale, the Barnett Shale, the Bakken Shale and the Marcellus Shale and advised clients on Acquisitions and Divestitures, Operating Agreements and other transactional matters.

SCOTT SURLES

Mr. Surles began his career in the oil and gas industry working in XTO Energy’s legal department. He worked with both the land and legal departments in helping review title opinions and draft lease terms. Since joining Brashier Crosby, Mr. Surles has gained additional experience drafting both “sit down” and “stand up” title opinions. Mr. Surles has rendered title opinions covering lands in the Permian Basin, Eagle Ford Shale, and Barnett Shale, in addition to the Bakken Shale. Mr. Surles became a partner of the firm in July of 2018.

TREY TEMPLE

After graduating from law school and becoming licensed, Mr. Temple began his career in the oil and gas industry working as a field landman. Working for a major independent operator, Mr. Temple focused primarily on formations in Texas, West Virginia and Ohio, gaining expertise in running title and performing curative work. During this time he also assisted in training junior landmen. The practical experience he gained from running title and being responsible for numerous curative measures allowed Mr. Temple to seamlessly transition to into an associate position with Brashier Crosby, where he is responsible for preparing drilling title opinions. Mr. Temple became a partner of the firm in October of 2019.

BRIAN REEVES

Mr. Reeves is an experienced oil and gas title attorney who prioritizes accuracy, reliability and effiency in his work. Throughout his career he has written hundreds of drilling and division order title opinions for lands located in west, east and south Texas. After graduating from law school in 2010, he began his career in the oil and gas industry as a field landman, researching surface, mineral and leasehold title and preparing runsheets and ownership reports for lands located in various counties throughout Wyoming and Colorado. In 2013, he joined Hampe Law Firm, PLLC, in Tyler, Texas, where he wrote numerous drilling and division order title opinions for lands in the Permian Basin and Eagle Ford Shale. In 2016 and 2017, he prepared a division of interest in production from a 9,038.7-acre pooled gas unit in east Texas for a Dallas-based independent operator. He joined Brashier Crosby, PLLC, in 2018, where he focused on writing drilling title opinions for producing properties in the Permian Basin with highly complex fee and leasehold titles. In 2021, he returned to Hampe Law Firm, PLLC, in Tyler, Texas, where he continued to write Permian Basin drilling title opinions. In addition, he wrote dozens of division order title opinions for Permian Basin allocation wells. He is pleased to have recently re- joined Brashier Crosby, PLLC.

TIMOTHY MACGORMAN

Prior to law school, Mr. MacGorman worked as a real property title abstractor where he gained experience examining title to properties in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and training new title abstractors. After graduating from law school and becoming licensed, Mr. MacGorman began his career in the oil and gas industry examining title, rendering title opinions, and drafting curative documents covering lands in the Barnett and Eagle Ford Shales and Permian Basin, before joining Brashier Crosby in 2022.

CHRISTIN MCALESTER

Ms. McAlester began her career in oil and gas working in Chesapeake Energy’s title department. She liaised with the land and division orders departments in helping to render title ownership reports, division of interest updates, and change of ownership requests for the Barnett Shale business unit. From there, Ms. McAlester worked as an associate attorney with an Oklahoma City area law firm providing oil and gas title and title curative services, primarily in the SCOOP and STACK plays. Her experience includes the rendering of original drilling title opinions, division order title opinions, and limited mineral and leasehold title opinions in addition to drafting curative instruments and probating mineral estates across the State of Oklahoma.

JONATHAN MOROZ

After graduating from law school and becoming licensed, Mr. Moroz began his career in the oil and gas industry working as a field landman. While working for two major land management companies in Midland/Odessa, Mr. Moroz was elevated to the position of project manager focusing primarily on formations in Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Ohio. There he gained expertise in running title, performing curative work, training and managing landmen, and running day

to day operations. Before joining Brashier Crosby, P.L.L.C., Mr. Moroz worked for a Boerne-based law firm where he rendered traditional and “stand up” title opinions in Texas, Oklahoma and Ohio.

ROSS WEATHERS

Mr. Weathers began his career in the oil and gas industry working for a law firm with a focus on rendering traditional and “stand-up” title opinions covering legacy production in the Permian basin. In addition to title work, Mr. Weathers has advised clients on complex legal and regulatory issues arising between operators, land owners and the Railroad Commission of Texas. Since joining Brashier Crosby, Mr. Weathers has gained additional experience drafting both “sit down” and “stand up” title opinions across the State of Texas.

ERIN MILLIKEN

Ms. Milliken began her career working as a landman following law school graduation, gaining experience in the oil and gas industry running title and analyzingamultitudeofoilandgasagreements. Havingpracticedvarioustypesof civil litigation thereafter, Ms. Milliken realized her love and passion for transactional work and more specifically real property, drafting commercial loan documents, landlord-tenant leases, and master service agreements. Her experience as a landman coupled with her work drafting litigation and transactional documents has contributed to her transition as an associate at Brashier Crosby, where Ms. Milliken is primarily responsible for preparing drilling title opinions.

NATHAN LOEWENSTEIN

Mr. Loewenstein began his career in the oil and gas industry performing upstream analytics in the Appalachian, Permian, and Anadarko Basin plays. Mr. Loewenstein continued working in oil and gas during his time in law school, and after graduating and becoming licensed, he worked as an independent landman performing title curative and owner relations on behalf of EOG Resources, Inc. There he completed projects in each of its domestic areas of operation and gained experience in drafting curative documents, preparing divisions of interest, and team leadership. Mr. Loewenstein joined Brashier Crosby in 2023.
